Welcome to the winter issue of The Painting Imperative.
In this issue we take a look at some of the major exhibitions on show this winter that we feel you ought not to miss, we find out what Simon Bayliss thought of the paintings at this year’s Frieze, and Bernhard Gaul asks German painter and stage designer Mark Lammert about theatre and painting. Also, we are delighted to finally give you an insight into the practice of Basque painter Aiert Alonso, whose hand has been gracing our masthead since we began; Aiert is the featured artist in this issue’s...Paintologically Speaking.
We will be redesigning the magazine in the coming months, so expect a bigger and brighter Painting Imperative for Spring 2013. In the meantime, come back and check out the Outside the Lines column, which will continue to have regular reactions and reviews of exhibitions and painting practice, including a look at Peter Doig and Sidney Nolan.
Wishing you all the best for 2013.
